The Cravity member described K-pop as a collection of elements such as music, costumes, and choreography.
In an interview with BuzzFeed News, when asked what K-pop means to him, Allen shared how he views the genre. The CRAVITY member described K-pop as a collection of elements such as music, costumes, and choreography.
However, Allen made a comment that disappointed many fans: “Kpop also includes integration through which shows respect and appreciation for different cultures, not the occupation from any individual, group or context”.
Soon after the incident, in a private message on Universe, Allen issued a statement. Accordingly, the male rapper apologized to all fans and those who were offended by his interview answer. Allen realized that what he said was narrow-minded and came out of ignorance that hurt many people.
The CRAVITY’s member explained that he never intended to hurt the fans with his comment. Instead, Allen explained that the comment was made to support his view that K-pop is an inclusive community with great global influence.
Once again, he apologized to anyone hurt by his ignorance and promised to never make such statements again.
Many fans have praised Allen’s quick response to handle the controversy and not relying on the management agency, Starship Entertainment, to proactively issue an apology.
