King of 2018 MAMA and Seoul ambassador BTS’s economic value in numbers

It is the worldwide popularity and influence of the BTS, and there is no need to disclose it again.

The 2018 MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) in Hong Kong held at the Asia World Expo in Hong Kong at 11 p.m. on the 14th (local time) proved the influence of BTS. They won five awards, including ‘Artist of the Year,’ ‘Album of the Year,’ ‘Best Music Video Award,’ ‘Best Asian Style Award’ and ‘Mnet Global Choice.’ Prior to winning the award, BTS received a plaque of appreciation for I.Seoul.U from Seoul City.

Bangtan, the honorary ambassador of Seoul from May to August next year, has done a great job in promoting Seoul. Just by looking at the scene of this plaque of appreciation, we can see that the economic value is enormous. “The image of BTS as the leader of the world’s youth has made a positive impression of Seoul,” said Seoul City Mayor Yoo Yeon-sik, “The simple ad unit cost alone has an expected effect of 12 billion won. The economic value of BTS could exceed 1 trillion won if it comes with the core keyword BTS.”

‘2018 MAMA’ also contributed to proving this analysis. Last year, the actual audience of MAMA was 190 million, but this year it was broadcasted in 185 countries, including MTV (South East Asia) and MYXTV (U.S.), and the number of viewers who watched it reached 600 million.

It is also overwhelming in social networking services. The number of followers who follow BTS is 1,159,146 on their Fancafe, 17,220,454 on Twitter, and 8,034,049 on Facebook. BTS produced eight of the Seoul tourism promotion videos. Mayor Yoo said, “The video was broadcast in 117 countries. The Seoul song “With Seoul” that BTS sang together recorded 64,000 views on digital, and the music video exceeded 6.58 million views.

This time, “2018 MAMA in Hong Kong” was like a stage to celebrate BTS’ achievements this year. Before winning the award, they staged a powerful performance to celebrate the event. The performance, which started with “Love Yourself,” recalled a musical stage, and in “IDOL,” BTS filled the stage with many dancers to create an overwhelming scene.
