Amid the controversy over his statement about abandoned dogs, Kim Hee Chul (Super Junior) expressed his thoughts on the issue himself.

Kim Hee Chul posted an IG story, alluding to the controversy over his comment, "If I pay more attention to them, they're gonna poop more"

On August 30, Kim Hee Chul posted an Instagram story. He said, “Every time my dog Kibok wants to get my attention, he’s gonna make a “poop show”. He will walk around then poop right in front of my eyes. If I scold him Kibok, this little punk. Why are you pooping here?’, he may actually feel happy with that.

The male idol added, “I’ve heard that many other dogs (he used a dog emoji) are pooping like Kibok. Okay okay, if I pay attention to them, they’re gonna poop more… Well, I still have to clean up everything, right? Anyone wanna read a ‘beautiful’ article with me?”. Kim Hee Chul added a link leading to an article related to his controversial comments.

Earlier, Kim Hee Chul appeared on JBTC‘s reality show “Petkage“, which was aired on August 26, and gave his comments about abandoned dogs.

In the show, Kim Hee Chul caused controversy after saying, “I really respect people who raise abandoned dogs. Honestly, experts in raising puppies would never recommend abandoned dogs to first-time dog owners. Abandoned dogs have been hurt once, so it would take such a long time for them to adapt to a new environment with a new owner. Therefore, people who do not know what hurt their dogs before may eventually hurt them once again.”

After the broadcast, many viewers expressed their disapprovals of Hee Chul‘s statement. They said his statement would encourage negative prejudice and discrimination against abandoned dogs. Moreover, they also criticized the production team of “Petkage” for not editing the controversial part.

KARA (the community of Korea Animal Rights Advocates) expressed their concerns through a lengthy post on their Instagram on August 27. They said, “Misleading information has been broadcasted on the TV. A celebrity said that experts would never recommend abandoned dogs. While many people are trying to change the wrong perception of abandoned dogs, a celebrity just came on a show and encouraged the prejudice against abandoned dogs.”

The community also added, “If the guest made statements that would cause misunderstandings, the production team should immediately give supplement comments to clarify the information. If they couldn’t do it, they should edit out this part. KARA will send JTBC an official letter to express our criticism of the program and our guidelines for featuring animals on media: “No animal should be harmed”.
