KBS takes down video of “Hospital Playlist” star Jeon Mi Do after her gesture in the thumbnail was accused of mocking male genitals

Fans are angry as Jeon Mi Do gets dragged into a ridiculous controversy.

Recently, ”Hospital Playlist” actress Jeon Mi Do guested on KBS’s Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook. Although her character Song Hwa in the drama is tone deaf, in real life, Jeon Mi Do is a famous musical singer. She receives plenty of praise for showing off her sweet singing voice. However, Jeon Mi Do also got involved in an unnecessary controversy.

One of Jeon Mi Do’s videos on the show was suddenly removed from KBS’s official Youtube channel, causing fans to raise questions over the station’s decision. According to many Korean netizens, it is likely because the video’s thumbnail showing Jeon Mi Do’s hand gesture was deemed controversial. Although the actress was only talking about music in the video, anti-feminists in Korea claim her hand gesture is often used by feminists to mock male genitals.

International viewers are confused with KBS’s reaction. They think KBS could have simply handled the situation by changing the thumbnail instead of deleting the video. Because Jeon Mi Do only used the hand gesture when she was talking about music, not some sensitive matter.

However, in Korea, similar controversies are not uncommon. Celebrities showing support for feminism often come under criticism. For example, famous MC JaeJae was criticized after doing the same hand gesture as Jeon Mi Do at the Baeksang Arts Awards, even though her intention was completely unrelated. Anti-feminists on several online communities attacked JaeJae and accused her of mocking men.

Olympic athlete An San was also accused of being a feminist just because of her short haircut. In addition, a list of allegedly feminist celebrities includes RM (BTS), Joy (Red Velvet) and Suzy.
