Kangta reveals his No.1 copyright income song, mentioned NCT Doyoung and U-Know Yunho

Kangta, a member of the legendary boygroup H.O.T, discussed his recent comeback, his musical journey, and more in a radio show.

On the September 15th broadcast of MBC FM4U’s “Kim Shin Young’s Hope Song at Moon”, singer Kangta, who recently came back after 17 years with his 4th regular album “Eyes On You” and commemorated the 26th of his debut, appeared as a guest.

In this broadcast, Kangta shared a secret behind the release of “Eyes On You”, saying, “Actually, it was delayed from the original release date. I thought I could do it in September to celebrate my debut date, however.”

The male idol also said, “Actually, I was doubtful whether I would be able to release a full album again. I should have thought about various things, including whether I would be able to repay the production cost and whether it would be beneficial to the company, but the company willingly said, ‘If you haven’t released a regular album for so long, let’s go for a full-length album this time’.”

Kangta also confessed that he received some dancing training and wrote a directory note for each song to change his vocal style in the music. ”I was going to put in the song I wrote, but I eventually took it out. It’s the first time I’ve released an album without my own song”, he added.

Adding to this, Kangta’s song is not a ballad, but rather a dance track this time. The company gave him a lot of options, but in the end it was Kangta’s own choice. Then, he said, “Actually, I dreamed of becoming a rapper. When I was first selected for H.O.T, I was selected for the dancing position. Many people do not know, but I started out with dancing. I became a vocalist later, but I was casted for rap and dance. Anyway, I’m studying new music by changing my working environment this time, and will show you various contents and rapping.”

Kim Shin Young described Kangta’s journey as an “evolution”, and Kangta answered, “I always thought I should learn. If you don’t learn anything new, you have to do the same thing all the time. I’m learning because I think it’s better to use something new as a weapon.”

Regarding the production process of his album, Kangta revealed, “I didn’t give my opinion at all in the recording studio. I listened to the opinions of the director and staff, and I did it as they were.” He also mentioned SM’s vast song selection, saying, “I listen to at least 300 songs to make 10 songs in the album. There are at least 100 drafts in selecting a line of lyrics.”

However, this also brought Kangta quite the difficulty, as he admitted, “The hardest thing for me is that I unconditionally eliminated my own songs. Competition has to be fair, so mine can’t survive within those 300 songs”.

At the same time, Kangta also mentioned his fans joking that he’s no longer physically fit in his dance performance. Kim Shin Young then proceeded to inquire about the reactions of other H.O.T members to Kangta’s album, to which the male idol answered, “We just don’t talk about it separately. The members gave me hearts on SNS platforms, and I didn’t ask for the meaning of the hearts.”

Kim Shin-young was the reaction of HOT members to the regular album. When asked what was said in the group room, Kangta said, “I didn’t talk about it there, and all the members gave me hearts on social media. I didn’t ask for the meaning of the hearts separately.”

Afterwards, Kangta chose “Hope” as the number one song in his copyright income. He revealed that “Hope” has become a “traditional SM song” for trainees and for singing along at concerts.

“It’s a song that young idols must learn to sing unconditionally when they debut”, Kangta said, adding, “ There are times when I feel sorry about that.”The male also also specifically mentioned that in terms of generating the most copyright income, it alternates between “Hope” and “Doll”.

Kangta then selected NCT Doyoung as the idol that reminds him of H.O.T, and picked U-Knon Yunho as the next SM director. Finally, when Kangta was asked, ‘What is HOT to me?’, he answered, “My old house”, explaining that everyone wants to go home after a trip or after hanging out with friends.

“The longer you live in that house, the greater the sense of stability it provides. If I describe it in a more touching way, it’d be ‘a place that embraces me whenever and at any moment,” the male idol added.
