Ji Suk Jin intended to leave Running Man three times, once got hate for smoking on air

Few people know that because of a mistake in the editing of Running Man, Ji Suk Jin once became the focus of criticism.

Ji Suk Jin has long been linked with the image of a gentle “big brother” who is frequently teased by the cast members of “Running Man.” After 11 years, few people are aware that Ji Suk Jin was previously the target of Knets’ criticism for smoking on Running Man. The usage of stimulants on a reality program with an audience of all ages will have an impact on the show’s image.

In particular, in episode 243, as the members were working hard to complete the challenge, Ji Suk Jin sneaked behind them to smoke an e-cigarette. His actions were observed due to the angle from above.

After the episode aired, many viewers complained that such scenes should not be allowed to air and criticized the staff and Ji Suk Jin. The producers of the show apologized stating, “This is a mistake on the production side and we missed the scene because it was such a short scene that passed by so fast.”

After episode 240, Ji Suk Jin was also the subject of controversy for being very selfish. In this episode, the members’ and guests’ mission was to support Ji Suk Jin so that he may get gold coins. As a result, everyone strived to accomplish the mission. However, at that time, the production team announced a twist – Ji Suk Jin was given the opportunity to split the gold coins with the cast members and guests, or walk away with all ten gold coins. Ji Suk Jin chose the latter option and apparently walked away from the filming, leaving the cast members and guests stunned. Ji Suk Jin even uttered, “I have taken advantage of you”.

In response, the production team stated the decision was made to make the show more interesting, and that Ji Suk Jin actually did split the gold coins with the cast members and guests in the end.

11 years of “running” with Running Man, Ji Suk Jin as well as the members many times recalled that the ‘Big Nose’ tried to leave the program. Ji Suk Jin once revealed that he met the PD three times to express his desire to withdraw from Running Man.

When reading a comment from the audience: “From the beginning to the middle of the show, Ji Suk Jin had always been the target of the audience’s attacks”, “Big Nose” agreed, sharing: “It really didn’t fit me. It was really difficult for me at the start. The role of an MC is different, from say a player’s role. Because I am a player [on Running Man], putting in things like comments or gags at the right timing is different [from indoor varieties]. It’s true that I experienced difficulties on Running Man.

I asked to meet Cho Hyo Jin PD in person 3 times, and said I would quit… I said ‘I don’t think I’m necessary in this show’, ‘this program isn’t helpful for me’, ‘it would be better for both of us if we parted ways here,’ but even with all of that, Cho Hyo Jin PD held onto me and encouraged me.”
