Jeon Somi said that she had already made a song that she wanted to sing with the members of I.O.I.
MBC FM4U’s “Kim Shin-young’s Noon Song of Hope” broadcast, which aired on Nov 18th, featured singer Jeon Somi who recently made a comeback with her 1st full-length album “XOXO”.
During the balance game, when asked whether she would choose “a song I wrote but sung by someone else got 1st place” or “a song that someone else wrote but sung by me got 1st place”, Somi has chosen the former choice.
Jeon Somi said, “I think I would be more proud then.”
In response, DJ Kim Shin-young asked about who Somi wanted to sing the song she wrote and composed.
So-mi hesitated to answer, saying, “It might be a burden” but Kim Shin-young persuaded her, saying, “Just say it, who knows, you might be able to work together through this chance.”
Jeon Somi then confessed, “First of all, I’ve written an I.O.I song.”
When Kim Shin-young asked what kind of song it was, Jeon Somi said, “I was thinking it would be nice if we I.O.I can release an album again, or if I can sing with my sisters again. Then I just spend all night writing the song.”
She added, “I have to do that first.”
I.O.I, which debuted through Mnet’s survival program “Produce 101” in 2016, released its last digital single “Downpour” in January 2017 before officially disbanding. The members have promised, ahead of their disbandment, to reunite with each other in 5 years.
News of I.O.I’s reunion began to surface in 2019. However, each agency refuted it as “groundless rumors” but later revealed that they were preparing for an album.
But the possibility of their reunion is becoming uncertain as their agencies had notified that their comeback would be postponed until the end of the year to improve the album’s quality, after which the manipulation scandal of the “Produce” series got exposed.
However, I.O.I had had a live broadcast in April to meet their fans in celebration of their 5th debut anniversary. Except for Kyul-kyung who was in China and Kang Mi-na who was filming a drama at the time, all members including Jeon So-mi, Kim Se-jung, Choi Yoo-jung, Kim Chung-ha, Kim So-hye, Jung Chae-yeon, Kim Do-yeon, Lim Na-young and Yoo Yeon-jung appeared. the members all expressed their willingness to work again as I.O.I.
A CJ official has said in an interview with Dispatch on Nov 16th, saying, “Like Wanna One, we are ready to support other groups (I.O.I, IZ*ONE, X1) as well if they want to perform together again. We think it’s our responsibility.”
Fans are paying keen attention to whether I.O.I will be able to reunite again on stage.
