Public attention has recently been drawn into a Japanese media report that analyzed why former IZ*ONE member Miyawaki Sakura gained huge popularity in Korea.
On October 15th, Japanese media outlet Nikkan Gendai quoted words of a Japanese expert in the Korean Wave to explain why Miyawaki Sakura was able to gain recognition in the Korean music market.
The first reason was her appearance. This expert said, “The very first thing to mention is her appearance. After debuting as a member of IZ*ONE, she has shown off a much more classy look than when she was still active in Japan. Korean hairstyles, makeups, and outfits fitted with Sakura’s beauty perfectly.”
The expert continued to explain, “Sakura’s effort was also highly praised in Korea. The reason why she challenged herself in an audition program in another country despite being a popular member of HKT48 was ‘I want to know how far I can go in a new place’. In addition, thanks to Sakura’s good fanservice and her natural easygoing personality, she was praised as an ‘Professional Idol’ by Korean fans.”
Miyawaki Sakura made her debut as a member of the Japanese group HKT48 in 2011. In 2018, she appeared on Mnet’s show ‘Produce 48’ and made her name be known in Korea. She ranked 2nd place at the end of the show and re-debuted as an IZ*ONE member. Sakura returned to Japan after IZ*ONE’s disbandment in April and graduated from HKT48 in June this year.
Recently, Miyawaki Sakura has been confirmed to have signed an exclusive contract with HYBE (BTS’s company). It is known that she is currently preparing to make a debut in a new KPOP girl group.
