ITZY stirs controversy for standing in the middle of the joint stage at MBC Gayo Daejejeon 2021
Netizens question why ITZY was in the center while some 3rd generation groups stood at the side.
On December 31, the 2021 MBC Gayo Daejejeon officially took place, bringing together popular performers such as Red Velvet, Brave Girl, NCT, ASTRO, Stray Kids, The Boyz, ITZY, aespa, STAYC, IVE… and 2 hosts of Kpop 2nd generation, Girls’ Generation’s YoonA and 2PM’s Junho. At events with such a huge lineup consisting of idols from different generations, the standing position often causes controversy.
After last night’s event, MBC came under controversy for the questionable arrangement of artists’ standing positions. Specifically, at the joint ending stage to countdown to the new year, many netizens were uncomfortable seeing ITZY standing in the middle of the stage with ASTRO, MAMAMOO.
In particular, ITZY is only the 4th gen group but occupies a prominent position. Meanwhile, Red Velvet or NCT are standing on the sidelines, even out of the mainframe. Rookie groups such as aespa, STAYC or IVE were all standing at the edge of the stage.
On the Superstar stage, ITZY was also favored to stand in the center with a lot of screen time.
Netizens couldn’t help but be annoyed:
- Red Velvet, NCT, Oh My Girl stood at the edge of the stage, while some 4th generation idols stood in the center.
- They have no respect for Red Velvet and NCT
- Is ITZY’s reputation big enough to stand in that position?
- I can’t even see aespa. ITZY is not even as popular as aespa lately.
