ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo Talks About Using Good Looks as a Strength and Sincerity as a Weapon in Acting Career

Actor and ASTRO member Cha Eun Woo discusses his journey in acting, the helpfulness of his appearance, and his desire to try different genres and roles.

Cha Eun Woo had an interview at a cafe in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on February 21st. He couldn’t contain his excitement about his first round interview as an actor.

With his handsome visuals, it’s no secret that his looks have helped Cha Eun Woo in his acting career. But don’t be fooled by his flawless appearance. Cha Eun Woo is more than just a pretty face. He’s got sincerity and diligence on his side, which he says are his weapons for success. And with his role in the recent drama “Island”, Cha Eun Woo’s proven that he’s got the acting chops to match his stunning looks.

Cha Eun Woo smiled brightly and shared, “It’s been over a year since I completed all the shoots for ‘Island’. I’m more focused on the drama ‘A Good Day to be a Dog’ that I’m filming, but today I’ve taken out the character Yohan again”.

He said, “My member Moon Bin said the role suits me well before ‘Island’ was released and he paid TVing subscription and enjoyed watching the drama.”

Cha Eun Woo has achieved many firsts in his acting career with “Island”, including the first fantasy drama, the first action drama, and the first OTT original work. He proudly revealed that he developed a desire for acting and found it more enjoyable through working with amazing senior actors and experiencing action acting for the first time.

Cha Eun Woo made his acting debut in 2014 through the movie “My Brilliant Life”. He debuted with ASTRO in 2016 and started carrying out acting and idol activities at the same time. His representative works are dramas “Gangnam Beauty”, “Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung”, “True Beauty” and the movie “Decibel”.

However, it has never been easy for him to remove the “idol” tag when acting. Regarding the criticism of his acting skills, Cha Eun Woo frankly said, “I humbly accept such reactions and I think I can do better”. Rather than being frustrated by the negativity, he accepts it and does his best. That mindset has helped him grow into today’s Cha Eun Woo. He confessed, “I still have many shortcomings but I always do my best. I tried to rush in the past, but now I can focus better by looking at things more carefully”.

When asked about the moment he feels rewarded while acting, Cha Eun Woo responded that it’s when he manages to overcome hard scenes and gets praised by the director or other actors. He specifically mentioned when the director shed tears along with him while making emotional scenes in “Island”.

The actor cited sincerity and diligence as his “weapons” in acting and confidently boasted about his appearance as one of them. When asked if he wants to receive recognition for acting rather than his look, Cha Eun Woo said he would appreciate it if people can recognize him for both.

Cha Eun Woo is busy in various fields, including acting, music, and modeling as a brand ambassador, but he enjoys his work. He shared, “I can’t believe it’s been 7-8 years since my debut, but looking back on the journey, I think I’ve worked hard. I’m proud of my achievements and efforts and want to continue developing myself through various activities in the future”.

Cha Eun Woo is currently filming the webtoon-based drama “A Good Day to be a Dog”. He revealed that he has not yet decided on his next project but wants to try different genres and even challenge himself with a villain role.
