According to Hana Financial Investment Co.’s report in August 6, HYPE reached lower than expectation in the second quarter of this year.

“HYPE, 50% growth in sales with no tours + 6 groups are planned to join Weverse in 2 years”

Researcher Lee Ki Hoon at Hana Financial Investment Co. said “The figures of Weverse recorded for MAU (active users) and ARPY (average sales per subscriber) reached its highest peak in August with the joining of BLACKPINK and Ithaca Holdings at the beginning and end of this year. It is presumed that after its combination with V Live, the MAU figure will reach 30 million”. He also explained “Moreover, it is hard to tell in advance whether in the next 2 year, there will be 5 to 6 groups (an American boygroup, a Japanese boygroup, 1 or 2 Korean boygroups and 1 or 2 Korean/Japanese girlgroup) to join Werverse.”

Researcher Lee Ki Hoon also said “We planned to hold no offline concert this year but we expect that the annual sale will increase by 50%”.

“In the second quarter of this year, HYPE increased 276.8 billion won in sales, an increase of 79% compared to figures recorded in the same period of time last year. Their business profit declined by 6% to 28 billion won which was below the consensus figure of 30.6 billion won.”, the researcher further explained. He said The sales were generally better than expectations, the sale of contents such as fanmeetings increased 91 billion won (237%) compared to last year. Ithaca Holdings also recorded 15 billion won in sales recorded in May”.

The business profit was low because of the payment fee (about 10 billion won) and the amortization fee (about 4 billion won for 1.5 months) related to the taking over of Ithaca. Additionally, the business profit excluded fees related to Ithaca is about 15%.”

The researcher said “HYPE’s sales are expected to increase by 80% in the third quarter of the year to 342.6 billion won. The business profit may reach 72 billion won (79% higher than last year) in which 60 billion won is included from BTS/TXT albums selling, the No.1 on HOT 100 Chart for 10 weeks and still counting, fanmeetings and MD, etc

He added “There will still be no offline tour in the 4th quarter of the year”.

“The figures recorded on Weverse for BTS has increased 72% to 11.57 million subcribers since last year, and TXT/ENHYPEN/SEVENTEEN also recorded their increase of 66%, 95% and 69%. The MAU index reached 5.3 million in the 2nd quarter. BLACKPINK joined Weverse and gained 1.5 million subcribers in 3 days.”, he said.

The researcher predicted “The MAU growth is due to the overlapping subscription of the fandoms. The ARPU exceeded 100,000 won for the first time and is getting close to reach 110,000 won as a result of the influence of online fanmeeeting.”
