Netflix confirmed the December 24th release and disclosed the teaser poster for “The Silent Sea”.
This Christmas Eve, Netflix will be heading to the moon with “The Silent Sea”. Set in the year 2075 when depletion of natural resources has devastated Earth, “The Silent Sea” tells the story of an elite team sent on a special mission to an abandoned research base on the moon.
The poster for “The Silent Sea” captured the appearance of Song Ji-an (played by Bae Doo-na), an astrobiologist who has just set foot on the moon. She is a member of an elite team sent to the moon to save Earth from ruin with its depletion of natural resources. The Netflix series begins its exploration on the moon, which still remains an unknown space to us. The moon on which there are a lot of things to be curious about, as well as the abandoned and closed South Korean research base. What really happened there? While looking for clues to save Earth, team members become mired in mysterious predicaments and unforeseen events that occur in outer space. Viewers are raising expectations about what unexpected mysteries will come to them.
“The Silent Sea” is a series based on director Choi Hang-yong’s short film by the same name, which received much acclaim at the 13th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival in 2014. Actor Jung Woo-sung, who was fascinated by the story that director Choi has been crafting for more than a decade, said, “I loved the brilliant ideas contained in the work. I wanted to be involved in creating a SF series that is uniquely Korean.” On top of that, writer Park Eun-kyo, who won Best Screenplay at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards for “Mother” and at the Blue Dragon Awards for “Crush and Blush“, joined the production team to expand the fresh and new worldview of “The Silent Sea”. A powerful cast lineup including Bae Doo-na, Gong Yoo and Lee Joon will portray the elite team members who risk their lives to participate in a special mission, which foretells intense suspense and synergy.
“The Silent Sea” is scheduled to be released only on Netflix on December 24th.
