‘Girls’ Planet’ gained 2.22 million audiences and 60 million views, topped the list of hot topics.

Mnet’s new global project, ‘Girls’ Planet 999: Girls Generation’ (Girls’ Planet), has already gained popularity in Korea and foreign countries.

On August 6, at 8:20pm, the first episode of ‘Girls’ Planet was broadcasted. According to Mnet, the show attracted more than 2.22 million viewers worldwide, including Japan, the US, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, to watch their first broadcast. The data were collected from ABEMA TV in Japan, iQiyi in 13 Southeast Asian regions, and Youtube TV.

Girls Planet‘ had proved its popularity even before the first broadcast. Whenever Mnet released teasers for the show on Youtube, all the videos gained great numbers of views. On August 9, Mnet announced that the total views of all ‘Girls Planet‘ videos on Youtube exceeded 62.66 million views.

The performance videos of the contestants’ units received explosive responses after the first episode was aired. Especially, the performance videos with the highest views, which exceeded 2 million views, are “Boombayah (BLACKPINK)” covered by unit ‘Burn Crush’ from J group, Choi Yoo Jin (K group) ‘s performance, and “Crazy (4Minutes)” covered by ‘Monster Baby’ from K group.

Many other performances also gained more than 1 million views in a short period of time, such as “Black Mamba” by unit ‘Cuties’ from K group, “Helicopter (CLC)” by unit ‘Strong Girls’ from C group, “Fancy (TWICE)” by unit ‘Crystal Girls’ from J group, and “DUMDi DUMDi ((G)-IDLE)” by unit ‘December Girl’ from J group.

The show also made it to the hot topic. According to the 5th week of July’s Content Popularity Index (CPI) released on August 9, ‘Girls Planet‘ ranked No.1 in the entertainment category. It also ranked No.1 on the entertainment chart of RACOI, an analysis system of broadcasting content operated by the Korea Communication Commission. In addition, according to data compiled by Good Data Corporation, the show also topped the non-drama topic in the first week of August.

The production team of ‘Girls Planet‘ said, “We are grateful for your interest in the first episode. We will show you the story of how the girls who passed the first mission will collaborate and unite as one team.”

“Since it was the first episode, we made it a 150-minute long special show to introduce the skills and charisma of the contestants. From the 2nd episode, we are going to make it faster, so don’t get your eyes away from the episode.”
