This male trainee expressed his dissatisfaction with the Kpop industry when they still kept their conservative and discriminatory thinking towards homosexuals.

Currently, more and more stars in Korean showbiz start to live and love true themselves despite the stigma of society. However, KilliAn – a former JYP trainee lost the opportunity to debut as a Kpop idol just because his gender identity doesn’t stand up to the company standard.

KilliAn (30 years old) whose real name is Lin Jia Le was born into a family with artistic traditions. He joined the entertainment industry at the age of 8 when he was invited to play in a Hong Kong movie. After going to high school, thanks to his handsome appearance, KilliAn was discovered and recruited by JYP through social networks. However, he said, “The opportunity came, but I had a big fight with my family about wanting to go to Korea.”

After overcoming barriers from his family, he officially became a trainee at the age of 14. At that time, JYP was preparing for the debut of 2AM and 2PM. KilliAn would have also become a member of the project if he hadn’t been fired. KilliAn revealed that he was caught by JYP when dating another male trainee of the company which made the company very angry.

According to KilliAn, the company did not want to have any disavantage from the debut of a gay trainee but the main reason is because he’s not Korean. “I’m gay, but Koreans were very conservative about homosexuality at the time, so in the end, they asked me to leave because of it,” he said.

However, this is not the end of the discrimination that KilliAn faces in the entertainment industry. Losing the opportunity to debut in a K-pop boy group, a JYP makeup artist introduced KilliAn to a new agency. But after training under 5 different Korean entertainment companies without success, KilliAn finally returned to Hong Kong.

KilliAN claims he was under house arrest in Hong Kong. Everywhere he went someone from his company followed him. His boss even asked him for testosterone injections as his voice was too feminine.

His hardships continued. A scandal involving Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing ended his acting career, KilliAN enlisted in the Taiwanese military. “Perhaps I don’t get along well with the entertainment industry”, he explained. He tried to get back to acting, but he was manipulated by his boss.

He wanted to have a sexual encounter with him. The boss offered KilliAN a leading role in a production. The situation got worse when KilliAN’s boss tried to drag KilliAN to the washroom. However, KilliAN was able to refuse him after a fight ensued.

Although the difficulties KilliAN faced on his path to success are enough to make most people quit, the aspiring star is determined to keep going strong and continue to strive for greater heights. He stated, “For now I’m just going along with the flow to build my career in entertainment.”

Despite many difficulties, KilliAn is still full of ambition to fight for a spot in the entertainment industry: “I’m slowing down and don’t hope to become extremely popular. I just hope a suitable opportunity will come my way”.
