Former BTOB member Jung Il-hoon got sentenced to 2 years in prison after the appeal court

Jung Il-hoon, a former member of BTOB, who was arrested on charges of smoking marijuana habitually, was sentenced to 2 years in prison during an appeal court.

On the afternoon of Nov 18th, the Seoul High Court held a trial on the decision of an appeal court against Jung Il-hoon, who was arrested on charges of violating the law on drug management. On this day, the prosecutors demanded a 2-year prison term and a fine of 126,63 million won compared to the 4-year term and 123 million won in fine suggested during the first trial.

The court explained, “He has systematically bought and used large quantities of marijuana over a long period using meticulous methods such as virtual currency. The defendant has played a leading role in this overall crime.”

However, Jung Il-hoon’s attorney appealed that the actual time and amount of marijuana purchases done by Jung Il-hoon has been excessively reported. They also appealed for a lower sentence as the related legal principles such as the required fine seem to have been mistaken.

Jung Il-hoon was indicted on charges of transferring about 133 million won to purchase a total of 826 grams of marijuana, using them a total of 161 times between July 2016 and January 2019. He got enlisted on May 28th last year as a social service worker but was sent t the prosecution in July of the same year on charges of violating the law on drug management. He then left his group BTOB in December 2020 after his allegations went public.
