The first hearing for former BTOB member – Ilhoon has taken place on April 22 at Seoul Central District Court.

During the hearing, Ilhoon’s legal representative stated, “The defendant admits all the allegations and is reflecting his wrongdoings.”

When Ilhoon had the opportunity to speak, the male idol said, “I really regret it. I’m so sorry”. Seven other defendants also admitted the charges.

Ilhoon and the other defendants were brought to trial for suspicions of purchasing and smoking 826 grams (approximately 1.8 pounds) of marijuana together using approximately 130 million won (approximately $116,500) across 161 instances between July 5, 2016, and January 9, 2019.

Police discovered traces of the drug in hair samples during drug testing. Jung Ilhoon purchased the marijuana not with cash, but with cryptocurrency to attempt to avoid any investigation.

Ilhoon enlisted last May and is currently a public service worker.  After the scandal broke out, CUBE Entertainment announced that Ilhoon left BTOB.

Meanwhile, BTOB is trying to revive the group’s reputation after Ilhoon’s scandal. The 4 members of the group, Seo Eunkwang, Lee Changsub, Lee Minhyuk, and Peniel are participating in the survival show Mnet’s Kingdom: The legendary war.  The other two members, Im Hyunsik and Yook Sungjae, are still serving in the military.
