Exciting Korean Film Lineup for Summer 2023 Release

Hottest Korean films of the summer featuring action, sci-fi, and award-winning directors set to captivate audiences.

Numerous Korean films by talented directors and acclaimed actors are predicted to heat up the box office this summer, featuring diverse genres ranging from action, thriller to science fiction.

Facing fierce competition from online streaming platforms and big-budget foreign films, some upcoming Korean movies are seen as catalysts to revive the country’s film industry.

Kicking off is the new crime action film “Smugglers” by director Ryoo Seung Wan, set to be released on July 26th. Taking place in the peaceful coastal village of the 1970s, the film revolves around two female divers who unexpectedly get involved in a large-scale smuggling operation.

This is the third film utilizing historical material by director Ryoo Seung Wan, following “The Battleship Island” (2017) and “Escape from Mogadishu” (2021). Actresses Kim Hye Soo and Yum Jung Ah take on the lead roles, creating Ryoo’s first film centered solely around female characters. Zo In Jung, Park Jung Min, and Go Min Si also appear in the film.
