Originally a shy kid
Choi Woo Sik was born in 1990 in Seoul, Korea, but later immigrated with his family to the suburbs of Vancouver in Canada. However, Choi Woo Sik once revealed that changing to fit into Canadian culture has contributed to making it easier for him to adapt on the path to becoming an actor.
Unlike many other actors, Choi Woo Sik got into acting quite late. He originally passed the Computer Engineering exam in Canada, but in 2010, Woo Sik secretly returned to his home country without telling his parents to participate in an audition for a movie when he was only a 20-year-old freshman in college.
The audition did not end well, but because he received good reviews from the judges, he decided to stay in Korea to pursue his dream, despite his family’s objections. He took another college entrance exam and majored in Cultural Studies while diligently participating in auditions. Choi Woo Sik‘s perseverance finally paid off when in 2011, he got his first roles in Living in Style and The Duo.

Choi Woo Sik‘s acting in the film is highly appreciated by Korean experts, as he has successfully shown the character’s personality just through his eyes. In particular, when the whole Parasite crew went on stage to receive the “Best Picture” award at the Oscars, Choi Woo Sik looked at them and cried.
