“Director” Lee Jung-jae: “I was worried that I might ruin my career as an actor”

Actor Lee Jung-jae (51 years old) carefully said, “I’ve been building my career as an actor well, but I was worried because I felt like I might ruin it myself.”

In a round interview held at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul on August 3rd, Lee Jung-jae shared his thoughts with a shy smile, “I’ve been doing well as an actor for about 30 years, but there was also a fear that I might ruin my career by writing such a story (spy movie dealing with actual historical events in 1980s). Others may not be able to imagine my fear.”

“Hunt” is actor Lee Jung-jae‘s first directing film. He confessed, “I’ve been an actor for about 30 years, so I wanted to focus on actors. I wanted to focus on characters, so I decided to direct it. Nevertheless, as I set the subject in this direction, I thought it would be a story that could fully communicate with the audience.”

“Hunt” (directed by Lee Jung-jae, distributed by Megabox JoongAng Plus M, produced by Artist Studio and Sanai Pictures) is a spy action movie in which Park Pyong-ho (played by Lee Jung-jae) and Kim Jung-do (played by Jung Woo-sung), who suspect each other and find the spy hidden in their agency, face a huge incident called “Korea’s No.1 assassination operation”.

In addition to directing, starring and contributing to the screenplay, Lee Jung-jae also co-produced the film. It is his feature directorial debut after 29 years of working as an actor since 1993.

It was not an easy process since there were many things to care about as a director, but he said he was satisfied with the work. He expressed expectations, “I think it’s a story that can fully communicate with the audience. I wonder how the audience will react after the release.”

It will be released on August 10th.
