World-famous Kpop group BTS will not attend the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.
According to their agency Big Hit Music, BTS decided not to attend the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, which will be held in Las Vegas on May 15th (local time). While the reason for their absence remains unknown, people suspect that this is due to BTS having to focus on their upcoming album, “Proof”, which will be released on June 10th.
The Billboard Music Awards is considered one of the three major awards in the American pop industry, alongside the American Music Awards and the Grammy Awards. With the success of their 2021 single “Butter”, BTS has earned nominations in 6 categories, including “Top Duo/Group”, “Top Song Sales Artist”, “Top Billboard Global Artist (Excluding the US)”, “Top Billboard Global Song (Excluding the US)”, “Top Selling Song” and “Top Rock Song”.
The group’s other title track, “Permission To Dance”, was also nominated in the “Top Selling Song” category, resulting in a total of 7 nominations and breaking the group’s own record. BTS first became relevant at Billboard Music Awards after winning “Top Social Artist” in 2017. Afterward, they won the “Top Duo/Group” award in 2019, followed by “Top Social Artist” in 2020. 2021 was a splendid year for this famous Kpop group, seeing that they snagged 4 awards at once, in the categories “Top Selling Song”, “Top Song Sales Artist”, “Top Duo/Group”, and “Top Social Artist”.
“Butter” was a phenomenal hit of BTS, having ranked first on Billboard’s main single charts “Hot 100” for 10 consecutive weeks, and spent a total of 12 weeks in the top 10.
