Court ruled Yang Hyun Suk ‘not guilty’ on charges of covering up B.I’s drug investigation, “Lack of direct evidence”

Former YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk was acquitted on charges of threatening to cover up B.I’s drug investigation in the first trial.

On the morning of Dec 22nd, Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement Division 23 (Chief Judge Jo Byung Gu) announced the first trial’s ruling for Yang Hyun Suk, who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (threatening).

Accordingly, the court acquitted Yang Hyun Suk and three other defendants. The court cited the inconsistent statements of Han Seo Hee and the lack of direct evidence to prove that Yang Hyun Suk threatened Han Seo Hee.

Meanwhile, Yang Hyun Suk was accused of conciliating and threatening Han Seo Hee when she tried to report B.I’s drug charges in 2016. Han Seo Hee, who changed her statement during a police investigation then, later reported that Yang Hyun Suk and YG pressured her through the National Rights Commission in 2019.

In September last year, B.I was sentenced to three years in suspended prison and four years of probation on charges of smoking marijuana and buying LSD. He was also ordered to complete 80 hours of community service, 40 hours of drug treatment lectures, and pay a fine of 1.5 million won.

Han Seo Hee was sentenced to three years in suspended prison and four years of probation in 2016. She was later found to have taken drugs again during the probation period and imprisoned for one year and six months. She was sentenced to another six months in prison for taking drugs for the third time while the second drug trial was underway, but she filed an appeal.
