Chinese police closed Kris Wu’s 1,000 enthusiastic fan accounts

Chinese authorities closed more than 1,000 SNS accounts of the former EXO member Kris Wu (Wu Yifan)’s fans as claiming his innocence.

According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 3rd, platforms such as Weibo and WeChat, which are famous Chinese social media, have also suspended accounts of Kris and enthusiastic fans who claim his innocence.

This is believed to be a completely new move by the Chinese authorities.

Earlier, Chinese police launched an investigation after rumors about Kris Wu sexually assaulting minors spread. Kris Wu then confirmed that he had sex with a minor and they arrested him.

However, the Chinese government has reportedly shut down not only Kris‘ SNS accounts but also more than 1,000 supporters’ SNS accounts due to the fans’ affirmation that Wu Yifan is not guilty.

In a related development, foreign media have been making headlines that the incident is turning into a “Chinese version of the Me Too Movement.

Kris Wu, a Chinese-Canadian, made his debut as an EXO member in 2012 but has been active in China since 2014 after filing a lawsuit against his agency SM Entertainment to nullify the contract.
