BTS will stand on the stage of the UN General Assembly
BTS will participate in the U.N. Children’s Fund Youth Agenda called “Generation Unlimited”, which will be held at the U.N. Trusteeship Council of New York on September 24th (local time). BTS will also deliver a three-minute speech at the gathering of the head countries.
“Generation Unlimited” is a global partnership program designed to expand investment and opportunities for teens and young people in the age of 10 to 24. About 10 top-level officials including Secretary-General of the UN – Antonio Guterres, Executive Director of UNICEF – Henrietta Fore and first lady Kim Jung Sook will attend the event.
Analysts say that BTS is able to attend the U.N. General Assembly not only thanks to BTS’ achievements in music but also because they have a positive influence around the world. In fact, they have received attention by sponsoring UNICEF’s “End Violence” campaign which against violence among young people while conducting a “Love Myself” campaign with the Korean Committee of the UN.
About BTS’ action, the U.S. broadcasting company CBS said that the U.N. needs youth and the K-pop boy group dominates the global age group between 15 and 25.
CBS stressed in their article: “BTS will infuse fresh air into the staid U.N. BTS is the icon of young generations around the world.“
“The seven members of BTS, all in their 20s, have written songs that show their attitudes to school violence, happiness and education,” CBS said.
Guterres, the Secretary-General and Jim Yong Kim, the President of the World Bank Group will attend the event. According to Korea-Seoul-Blue House (Cheongwadae), Mrs. Kim Jung Sook will deliver a speech along with BTS.
