BTS RM Gives A Response To Allegations That ARMY Manipulated Billboard Charts

Recently, some experts have accused ARMY (BTS’ fandom) of “ruining” Billboard as BTS consecutively reached No. 1 on this prestigious chart.

In recent times, a series of controversies surrounding BTS’ No.1 on Billboard broke out, leading a lot of debate on social networks. Especially, there is a controversial opinion about BTS’s #1 position: “As long as BTS is going to sell as many copies as they need to stay on top each week, No. 2 debuts are basically the new No.1 debuts”.

Many individuals believe ARMY manipulated the Billboard, causing the chart to lose its real significance. Many people think that Billboard no longer accurately reflects the most influential song in the US for a week because BTS is only ahead of other artists in sales and download points, which are made possible by the power of the fandom.

And today, in an interview with Billboard, BTS leader RM gave a response on this issue.

“It’s a fair question. But if there is a conversation inside Billboard about what being No. 1 should represent, then it’s up to them to change the rules and make streaming weigh more on the ranking.

Slamming us or our fans for getting to No. 1 with physical sales and downloads, I don’t know if that’s right … It just feels like we’re easy targets because we’re a boy band, a K-pop act, and we have this high fan loyalty.”
