BTS and BLACKPINK receives first MTV VMAs nominations, a new category for K-Pop has been added!

This is indeed a huge step forwward for both BTS and BLACKPINK and the whole K-Pop industry at the prestigious MTV Video Music Awards.

On July 23rd (KST), the MTV Video Music Awards 2019 has officially revealed the nominees of this year. For the first time in history, this long-run awards added a totally new category for K-Pop artists while BTS has their name as nominees for 4 categories and BLACKPINK, EXO, MONSTA X, NCT127 received their first MTV VMAs nomination. This is such a good news for K-Pop artists and their fans all over the world.

Specifically, MTV has added a whole new category to appreciate K-Pop with the name “Best K-Pop”. The first nominees of this category are the latest hits such as “Kill This Love” of BLACKPINK, “Boy With Luv” of BTS ft. Halsey, “Tempo” of EXO, “Regular” of NCT127,…BLACKPINK is also the first K-Pop girl group to receive a nomination at the VMAs.

Not stopping at that, BTS has also received 3 more nominations at the VMAs this year. The first one is from the “Best Collaboration” category for “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey. Their rivals in this category are all strong names such as “Old Town Road” (Lil Nas ft. Billy Ray Cyrus), “Shallow” (Lady Gaga ft. Bradley Cooper), “Senorita” (Shawn Mendes ft. Camila Cabello), “I Don’t Care” (Ed Sheeran ft. Justin Bieber). The other 2 nominations are for “Best Art Direction” and “Best Choreography”.

Will BTS be able to make history once again when they have already had 4 awards from Billboard Music Awards, and 1 from American Music Awards?

MTV Video Music Awards is a annual music awards show of MTV and is one of the 4 biggest and most important music awards of the year in the U.S aside from the Grammys, American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. The VMAs this year will be broadcasted on the morning of August 27th, and this year will be the first time they choose the Prudential Center, New Jersey as the venue.
