According to Billboard, BTS’ “DNA” holds an 87th position on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.
“DNA” entered at the 85th spot two weeks ago and rose to an 67th position last week, and this week records an 87th position. For 3 weeks, BTS has not only ranked alongside various accomplished global musicians but also written new history as a K-pop boy group.
What is most impressive is the fact that they have concurrently ranked in both the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and Billboard 200 Chart. Their album “Love Yourself” entered the charts at 7th place, was at a 25th position last week and this week records a 35th position, their presence on the chart for a consecutive three weeks in itself being a new record.
Billboard Hot 100 chart rankings are determined through a combination of factors such as online streaming, physical album sales, radio requests, youtube views, online downloads etc. Entry into the chart is only possible with a strong overseas fandom.
This is thanks to BTS’ fandom ARMY, the scale of which has even startled Billboard. The number of song requests across radio stations worldwide is relentless. It is a frequent occurrence on the Billboard charts for songs to enter and then drop out immediately, but thanks to BTS’ domestic and international fandom, they have consistently stayed on the charts for 3 weeks. They are the only Korean singers to have stayed on both main Billboard charts for 3 consecutive weeks with not an English release, but a Korean album. They’ve already set such a great record that any other rankings expressed in terms of numbers might as well be meaningless at this point. 방부심 (BTS’ self-worth) is of such levels.
