BLACKPINK’s Dancing Evolution makes fans surprised

Some BLACKPINK members have to practice extremely hard to catch up with their teammates in the choreography field.

When it comes to dancing, BLACKPINK has never disappointed fans. Although Lisa is the best dancer, even considered the top dancer of Kpop, Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo are not inferior. Thanks to the years of serious practice as trainees, the 4 girls have built up a solid set of skills.

Their history with dancing was finally shown in their Netflix documentary BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky. The documentary showed that before the debut, the members had different choreography backgrounds, so they had to work hard to be able to dance evenly as now.

For Lisa, since she was a child, performing was extremely natural for her. Lisa said: “I would just dance and sing to myself. That’s how my mom knew I loved dancing, so she signed me up for a course when I was in kindergarten.”Since she was a child, Lisa took part in countless gifted classes. She showed off her talent through dance competitions and won. When she auditioned for YG Entertainment in 2010, the Thai female idol impressed everyone with her skills that were far better than average. BLACKPINK’s maknae had beaten 4,000 opponents to become a YG trainee. Danny Im, who was present at the audition that year, said that Lisa was the most outstanding person, she also impressed the judges by jumping downstage.

In contrast, Jisoo and Rosé were not proficient at choreography when they first joined the company with their strengths lying in singing instead. Jennie was an international student before she became a trainee. When talking to Jennie, Jisoo said: “When I first became a trainee, I never sang or danced before. I lost my way, but you told me a lot”.

That’s why Jisoo had to practice dancing a lot, even taking 3 – 4 dance classes every day. Jisoo shared: “For me, there were so many lessons in the beginning. I took three to four dancing lessons a day and practised.” Even Rosé – who is currently the lead dancer of BLACKPINK, used to do not know how to make basic moves in class. Until the age of 16, she learned to dance. In the movie, the female idol confided: “There’s this basic routine you have to learn in dancing. They’re just like, ‘Do this’ and I was like, ‘I don’t know how to do it’.”

Facing countless difficulties, BLACKPINK persistently pursued their dreams. All 4 girls have long time training, spending 4 to 6 years in the practice rooms. Despite their different starting points, their dance styles matched up when they became a group.

Rosé is considered to be the most progressive. At the age of 16, she learned to dance, but now the main vocalist of BLACKPINK is considered to have the second-best dancing skills in the group, completely deserving the title of lead dancer. At present, they’re considered one of the top girl groups in the world. Their dance style has elements of hip hop that fits their music and shows off their talent. The charisma on stage, the singing ability and the well-mannered dance moves are the “weapons” that help the 4 girls attract global attention.
