The ’26th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26)’ will be held in Glasgow, UK for about two weeks from October 31 to the 12th of November. Leaders of 130 countries will participate in discussing actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve the Paris Agreement on Climate Change (a common goal of limiting the global temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius and up to 1.5 degrees Celsius). BLACKPINK will make a statement to raise awareness of climate change issues and encourage environmental protection at the World Leader’s Summit hosted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on November 1st and 2nd.

As a COP26 ambassador, BLACKPINK is continuing to make efforts to raise awareness about climate change. In December of last year, BLACKPINK joined the journey to save the earth through a video (‘Climate action in your area #COP26’) produced in conjunction with the British Embassy in Korea. . The video was released at the Climate Ambition Summit 2020 co-hosted by the UK, the United Nations, and France, and it had a huge impact as it rose to the top of social media trends at the time.

In addition, the YG girl group exercised a good influence by participating in Google’s ‘Dear Earth’ (climate change-related campaign) that was recently conducted on YouTube Original. At that time, BLACKPINK conveyed a message to fans around the world, “Let’s work together to improve climate change awareness”.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK has established itself as the top girl group globally by producing many hit songs since the debut in August 2016. The group’s official YouTube channel currently has 68.7 million subscribers, making them the artist with the most subscribers on YouTube globally. The overall number of followers on the group’s Instagram accounts, as well as the members’ individual accounts, surpassed 250,000. With this great widespread power, BLACKPINK is leading in various social contribution activities such as UN SDG ambassadors, engaging in various public benefit campaigns, and donating for forest fire damage recovery.
