BLACKPINK is preparing for the most anticipated of Kpop girl group comeback this year.
A few weeks after the Korean media reported on the possibility of BLACKPINK‘s return to the music race this year, 4 members of the group including Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, Rosé have all confirmed the launch of their new music product and an upcoming world tour this year through an interview with Rolling Stone.
Sharing about her health situation after the 2020 world tour, Jennie said: “These days, because we’re preparing for our comeback and planning our tour, I think every day, ‘OK, how do I prepare myself for my next busy two years?’”
If BLACKPINK makes a comeback as predicted this year, it will mark the return of the most prestigious K-pop girl group with a full lineup after 2 years since “The Album” released in October 2020. The information that the 4 members of BLACKPINK will return with a new song has been spread since the beginning of 2022. Many industry experts and analysts express their interest in this matter and mention the huge fortune that BLACKPINK’s management company, YG Entertainment, is about to receive after their comeback.
An analyst from NH Investment & Securities said, “YG’s performance is expected to increase sharply between the end of June and the beginning of July when BLACKPINK returns.” An analyst at Yuanta Securities predicts that the group will return with new music in the third quarter and begin touring in the fourth quarter.
Although YG Entertainment refused to confirm or comment on this information, BLACKPINK’s comeback is getting closer and closer as the 4 members participate in many joint activities instead of promoting solo as before.
Recently, BLACKPINK appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone. They are the first girl group after American group Destiny’s Child (2001) to appear on the cover of this magazine. BLACKPINK is also the second Asian artist to be on the cover of Rolling Stone, after boy group BTS last year.
“BLACKPINK are one of the most popular artists to ever come out of South Korea. BLACKPINK’s great success is also part of Hallyu, showing the global popularity of the Korean cultural industry,” Rolling Stone described the group in the article. According to Rolling Stone, BLACKPINK’s music projects are always “explosive, larger-than-life force that’s both invigorating and addictive”, mixing powerful hip-hop beats with house, EDM, and more.
The 4 BLACKPINK members also shared never-before-seen personal stories with topics about their childhood, trainee period, health concerns, family, and future plans.
BLACKPINK members recently attended the Queen’s Birthday Party celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s 96th birthday and Platinum Jubilee at the British Embassy’s residence in Seoul, South Korea.
The girls attended the event as ambassadors for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, to be held in November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland.
BLACKPINK had a successful debut in 2016 under YG Entertainment with the first single “Square One”. They immediately shot up to become global stars, dominating domestic and international charts. The group is currently the most followed artist on YouTube with more than 74.4 million subscribers, dethroning Justin Bieber last September.
