On October 10th, Jisoo (BLACKPINK) posted a picture on her Instagram along with the caption, “Wow, I’ve just changed it. New phone, cute case”.
In the published photo, Jisoo is taking a selfie with an iPhone 13 – Apple’s latest phone model. The photo was quickly shared on online communities and caused controversy. Netizens sharply confronted each other on the grounds of “freedom” and “commercial morality”.
Internet users who claim “freedom” said, “The contract period between Samsung and BLACKPINK ended 1 year and 2 months ago. Changing phones is one’s individual freedom.” On the other hand, netizens claiming “commercial morality” opposed, “Even if the contract with Samsung is over, it’s careless to post about a competitor’s product and say ‘I’ve just changed it’ like that. In addition, other BLACKPINK members like Jennie and Rosé are also known to be using iPhone.
In 2019, Samsung Electronics launched a mid-priced product called Galaxy A80 Blackpink special edition in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and Malaysia.
