Everything that the girlgroup from YG has done so far has definitely made an unforgettable shock to the Korean music industry.
With an amazing comeback after one year of being inactive, Black Pink has become the girlgroup which people talks about the most at the moment. It’s undeniable that before their comeback, there were many doubts from the netizens as well as the Korean public. The inactive period of the girlgroup from YG was so long compared to other girlgroups from the same generation. However, after June 15th, all those doubts quickly faded away thanks to a series of impressive achievements that the girls got during their promotion.
Despite the digital version and MV release of the new title song on the 15th, the CD version of “Square Up” was officially released 4 days later. By the end of June 25th, the number of sales in the first week of this album was officially announced and once again helped the girlgroup from YG make history in Kpop. Actually, due to many unfortunate incidents, at around 17:40 pm on the 25th of June (according to Korean time zone), the number of sales of “Square Up” was stuck at over the number of 96,000 copies and made their fans anxious about whether Black Pink can achieve their desired goal or not. But within the last few hours of the week, thanks to the efforts of BLINK, YG was finally able to sell 102.001 copies of “Square Up” for Black Pink.
Hanteo Chart @ 180625:
BLACKPINK – SQUARE UP 6,583 (102,001 total)
— BLACKPINK Charts (@ChartsBlackPink) June 25, 2018

With this achievement, Black Pink became the idol group that got the biggest number of album sales in the history of YG Entertainment, defeated many of their legendary seniors under the same agency such as Big Bang, Sechs Kies, and WINNER. Compared to other Kpop girlgroups, the number of sales in the first week of “Square Up” ranked 5th, right behind 4 albums of TWICE. Not only that but Black Pink also became the 3rd girl group in Kpop history to get the sales number of 100,000 copies (after SNSD and TWICE) as well as the 2nd girlgroup in the history to get this number within the first week (after TWICE). “Square Up” also became the best-selling album of a girlgroup on Hanteo over the past decade.
In addition to the impressive number of album sales, Black Pink recently set a new record for YouTube video views. At nearly the same time as “Square Up” to reach 100.000 of sales, their MV “DDU-DU DDU-DU” officially reached 100 million views. It’s notable that “DDU-DU DDU-DU” got this achievement in just 10 days 5 hours and 45 minutes. It’s also the shortest amount of time that a MV of a girlgroup reached 100 million views, and also the second shortest among the MVs of all of the Kpop idol groups (just behind BTS’s “Fake Love” MV) with an 8-day record which was set last month).
Not only that, Black Pink once again showed people that they are one of the rare artists that are capable of doing well with both album sales, YouTube views and digital achievements. In the night of so many impressive achievements, the girlgroup from YG made their fans proud again by setting a new record for the biggest amount of hours for Perfect All-Kill (PAK) with a K-pop girlgroup. Their new song “DDU-DU DDU-DU” brought 93 hours of PAK to Black Pink and officially broke the previous record with 91 hours of TWICE’s song “TT”. Currently, “DDU-DU DDU-DU” is just ranked behind the record of iKON’s “Love Scenario” with 204 hours of PAK in the early months of this year.
Currently, despite the broken record by the new song of NU’EST W, “DDU-DU DDU-DU” is expected to soon get the title of Perfect All-kill again. If “DDU-DU DDU-DU” could reach 100 hours of PAK within today, it would be a pretty satisfying result for Black Pink after 10 days of promotion with the triple number 100 that make a history – 100k albums, 100 million views of YouTube and (possibly) 100 hours of PAK.
Congratulations to Black Pink and BLINK for the proudable achievements they has made by their latest comeback with “Square Up” as well as “DDU-DU DDU-DU”!
