After hearing what Rain, a former JYP’s singer shared, many fans must have changed their mind about asking ITZY to leave JYP.
Recently, there have been many complaints about the way JYP manages ITZY. Awful outfits, so-so choice of title tracks, repetitive concept, ambiguous response to controversy… are among a bunch of outstanding issues that make fans dissatisfied with JYP. Many even claim that JYP is holding back ITZY and wasting the members’ potential.
With many existing inadequacies, should ITZY get out of JYP to find better agencies? From Rain‘s point of view, he could still succeed after giving up the support of a major company. Yet, he sincerely recommended his juniors to stay in JYP.
In the conversation between Rain and ITZY on “Season B Season”, the male singer opened up about his decision to leave JYP. He was a very successful artist under JYP but because he wanted to make changes, Rain decided to leave the company in 2007, just 5 years after his debut. After that, his career continued to grow bigger. Rain became one of the biggest Kpop solo artists in Korea and around the world.
Although no longer working under JYP, Rain has still achieved success on his own, and his relationship with CEO Park Jin Young has also been well-maintained for many years.
However, when Lia asked the question, “Then (for us to show other concepts), do we have no choice but to leave JYP?”. Rain quickly responded, “No, no, don’t do that. You guys should still be in JYP.”
The reason given by Rain is that after leaving JYP, it is not easy to find a good opportunity with your own company or a smaller company. Therefore, he firmly advised ITZY to continue to stay with JYP in the near future, and enjoy the support from a major label in the industry: “Without doubt it’s a concern to have at this phase of your career, but enjoy it while you’re still in a prominent company.”
True to Rain’s words, although JYP’s management still has many problems, it is clear that the success that ITZY has today is thanks to the great support from a Big 3 label like JYP. In the fiercely competitive market of K-pop, there are countless talented idols out there who still can’t rise to fame due to the lack of support from the agencies.
Even though there is a lot of criticism targeting JYP, this matter should be seen with more fairness. JYP has done a lot for ITZY and it’s difficult to deny the company’s special talent in producing famous girl groups.
