Stray Kids and TXT proved to be K-pop runners who will succeed BTS by lifting trophies in the “Best K-Pop” and “PUSH Performance of the Year” categories, respectively, at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards

The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (hereinafter referred to as the 2023 VMAs) was held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA at 8 PM on Sep 12th (local time). Stray Kids became the main character in the Best K-Pop category after competing with BLACKPINK, TXT, aespa, Fifty Fifty and Seventeen with the title song “S-Class” of their 3rd full album “5-STAR” released in June.

When their names were called, Stray Kids stood up from their seats with a puzzled look and looked like they could not believe it. They expressed their feelings, “We’ve been making our music ever since the start of our career, but to receive this award just really means a lot to us. We want to thank our fans, our STAYs, for being so supportive. We have so much to show you guys, so please look forward to the future.”

On the other hand, TXT, which was nominated in 4 categories: Group of the Year, Song of Summer, PUSH Performance of the Year and Best K-Pop, won PUSH Performance of the Year.

TXT, which won PUSH Performance of the Year on the red carpet before the main ceremony, said, “We wanted to show who we are and our music to lots of people. This award means that we did that. We’ll remember tonight forever. Thank you MOAs.”

The spectacular performances of the two teams also drew attention.

First of all, Stray Kids presented specialness with the “S-Class” performance. Stray Kids, which went on stage in costumes that revealed their individual personalities, showed a powerful performance with solid singing skills and unique intensity. In particular, they changed some of the song’s lyrics to the English version, which received enthusiastic responses from local fans.

TXT performed their new song “Back for More (with Anitta)” with Brazilian pop star Anitta. “Back For More” is a song linked to TXT’s 3rd full album “The Name Chapter: FREEFALL”, which will be released on Oct 13th.

Starting with an eye-catching solo dance, the members showed the essence of sharp group dance. When they danced with Anitta in the middle, their skillful tempo control was noticeable. The performance of taking off outerwear added sexiness, making the audience cheer.

TXT attracted attention by attending the “American Music Awards” red carpet event last year, but this is their first time performing at a major awards ceremony in the United States. Hereby, TXT set a new record among all K-pop artists by appearing on the VMAs stage in the shortest period of time since debut.
