Another sad news about “Reborn Rich”, which faces controversies despite achieving high ratings, has been delivered
The production of Blu-Ray for JTBC’s drama “Reborn Rich”, which was promoted by fans, has been canceled.
On December 26th, a notice was posted on the Daum Cafe “‘Reborn Rich’ Blu-Ray Promotion Cafe”, saying “We inform you of the end of Blu-Ray promotion”.
In the notice, Blu-Ray promotion team said, “We feel heavy-hearted to tell you unfortunate news after the drama ends. Starting today (Dec 26th), the Blu-Ray promotion for ‘Reborn Rich’ will end. Both Twitter and Youtube accounts of our promotion team will be closed within this week”.
They continued, “We opened a promotion cafe and tried to carry out the promotion even when we hadn’t recruited enough members, so it was hard to handle the promotion. We would like to sincerely apologize to fans who have been waiting for the Blu-Ray. We also want to express our sincere gratitude to those who have always supported us despite the difficult situation. With regretful heart, we also sent an inquiry asking the production company to produce the Blu-Ray, but they replied that they had no plan to produce it. Once again, we would like to thank all the members and hope you spend a warm time at the end of this year.”
Blu-Ray movies are sometimes produced by production companies themselves. However, in the case of dramas, Blu-Rays are often produced only after fans raise money on their own, make direct contact with production companies, and meet certain demands.
Blu-Ray normally includes the drama’s main broadcasts, making videos, actor & staff commentary, deleted scenes, NG scenes, and photobooks with pictures taken on the filming set.
Among all 2022 dramas, “Our Beloved Summer”, “The Red Sleeve”, “Snowdrops”, “Semantic Error”, “Through the Darkness”, “Twenty-five Twenty-one”, “Business Proposal”, and “My Liberation Notes” had Blu-Ray produced.
Meanwhile, “Reborn Rich”, which ended after airing episode 16 on December 25th, exceeded 30.10% (Seoul) and 26.9% (nationwide), recording the highest viewer ratings for 2022 miniseries.
In addition, the lead actors Song Joong Ki, Lee Sung Min, and supporting actors, such as Park Ji Hyun, Kim Nam Hee, Jo Han Chul, and Kim Shin Rok, also received favorable reviews from the public for their excellent acting.
However, “Reborn Rich” faced harsh criticism due to its “bad ending”, which is different from the ending of the original novel.
The original story ends with Yoon Hyun Woo becoming the owner of Sunyang Group after being reborn as Jin Do Joon, but the drama version turned the whole story into Yoon Hyun Woo’s dream.
After the drama ended, JTBC announced on December 28th that a special broadcast, which includes major events and famous scenes of the drama, will be broadcasted at 10 p.m. on January 1st, 2023.
