After receiving praises for the unique concept, aespa and SM get criticized for plagiarizing a Japanese artist?

Aespa is constantly caught up in scandals everytime they have a comeback.

On the evening of September 30, not long before aespa’s official comeback, the group suddenly encountered a scandal. The top-notch teaser images for Savage, which have been praised continuously for the past time, were suddenly accused of being just a plagiarism product, bearing many similarities with the works of artists Hajime Sorayama, James Merry and Ines Alpha.

The post accused aespa’s image of plagiarizing work from artist Hajime Sorayama

Even the image of the MV was criticized for copying bits of bits from everywhere.

Immediately after being posted, this incident quickly became the center of discussion, receiving a lot of controversial opinions. Some netizens claim this is indeed plagiarism but there are also many comments defending aespa, saying that they have the same idea but completely different ways of showcasing it.

– Is SM going to spend money to resolve the allegations again? For how many times would I have to remind SM to properly invest money in the creative department?

-The ones with the masks are a bit ridiculous to be criticized about because wearing a mask is not plagiarism. The masks also have different designs, aren’t they?

– SM is Kpop’s textbook company yet always got criticized of plagiarism, weird though.

– Well, the metal material, the snake’s bones have been aespa’s concept from the beginning, what’s wrong with that?

– I won’t comment on the first picture but the one with masks is ridiculous, this concept in fairy tales or sci-fi movies has been around for a long time.

-This group has been involved in a lot of controversies over plagiarism since debut.

– The pose in the first picture has already existed for so long. The metal parts are somewhat similar but this material has also been associated with aespa since debut. Whether it is plagiarism or not, let’s wait and see.

Currently, the SM has not yet responded and clarified the incident. But indeed from time to time, every comeback, aespa has been one of the rookies that is involved in the most controversies over plagiarism and faced criticism. SM always borrows the idea, then quietly settles things after being accused, affecting both the company and the rookie group’s reputation. Even up to this point, many netizens suspect that maybe this is SM’s intention for people to pay attention to aespa?
