A complaint is filed against the producing team of “Snowdrop” for violation of the National Security Act

A complaint has been officially filed against the JTBC drama “Snowdrop,” which has been embroiled in controversy over history distortion and military regime beautification.

On Dec 21st, it is confirmed that a complaint has been officially filed against director Cho Hyun-tak, author and director of JTBC’s “Snowdrop”, for violating the National Security Act.

The accuser A said on the same day, “JTBC said there was no spy leading the democratization movement, which is absurd. It is clear that the drama glorifiies and romanticizes spies on the backdrop of the democratization movement era in Korea.”

They then asked back, “Spy itself is dispatched with the aim of confusing Korean society and causing internal conflict. Isn’t the story of the normal life of a spy deployed in Korea itself glorifies and justifies the espionage behavior?”

According to Article 7, Paragraph 1 of the National Security Act, those who praise, encourage, propagate, or sympathize with the activities of anti-state organizations or their members or those who have received the order may be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

Regarding the overall story of “Snowdrop,” A refuted, “If they air a drama agonizing for Hitler in the West, it sure will lead to punishment.”

A also pointed out, “If you have a general sense of history, it would have been set in a fictional country with fictional characters, but the production team of “Snowdrop” has made use of real history,” adding, “JTBC is asking you to watch because there is a turnaround later, but the topic of justifying North Korean spies is a serious problem.”

JTBC‘s representative is responsible as the broadcaster’s general manager, while writer Yoo Hyun-mi and director Cho Hyun-tak are responsible for plotting and directing the story, they said. “If a non-celeb individual had beautified spies in such a way, they would have already been investigated by the investigative agencies.”

Finally, A, the accuser, said, “I hope the media with huge power will have a sense of responsibility,” adding, “Even the minimum principle has not been kept, and it seems to be too easy with their huge broadcasting power.”
