6 times YG idols prove they are the real trendsetters of K-Pop
BIGBANG’s G-Dragon, BLACKPINK’s Jennie – Jisoo either did these trends way before others or popularized them.
YG idols have long been famous for not only their unique musicality, outstanding talents but also trendy and distinctive styles. Members of the two most popular and influential YG groups, BIGBANG and BLACKPINK are often labeled “trendsetters” and “style icons” of K-Pop. Here are 6 times they prove how they earned these nicknames.
Low-rise pants
Low-rise, stomach-revealing pants were a divisive fashion trend of the early 2000s. However, recently in 2022, the item is back in style again and has become the favorite of many female K-Pop idols and global stars such as Yoona, Wonyoung, Red Velvet, Dua Lipa, Izabel Goulart, Hyoyeon. Wearing outfits with low-rise bottoms helps these female stars show off their tiny ant waists and toned abs.
Before low-rise pants became a hit again this year, Jennie created a stir with this item 2 years ago. Jennie proves her fashion sense is always ahead of others as she once drove fans wild when she boasted her perfect body by wearing baggy low-rise jeans in a BLACKPINK performance for Pretty Savage in 2020.
Bobby pins
Jennie also created a trend with hair accessories. During her first solo promotions, Jennie took social media by storm with her middle-parted hair and long sparkling rhinestone bobby pins. Using pins on both sides of the hair just like Jennie became a huge trend among young people for a while after Jennie released SOLO.
Rainbow hair
When it comes to one of the most iconic trendsetters of K-Pop, it is impossible not to mention BIGBANG’s leader G-Dragon. Known for his one-of-a-kind fashion sense, G-Dragon is the “father” of many trends among K-celebrities. He is the first male idol to have rainbow hair.
Years later, it became popular again as many other idols started dyeing their hair multiple colors like G-Dragon used to. Accordingly, famous idols like Jimin (BTS), Mino (WINNER), Sehun (EXO), BamBam (GOT7), Haechan, Chenle (NCT), Hyoyeon (SNSD), Chaeyoung (TWICE), Yeji (ITZY) have all tried this special hair color.
Wearing shoes like slippers
G-Dragon was the K-Pop star who popularized this unique habit of not wearing shoes completely on the feet and turning them into slippers. G-Dragon not only wore shoes like this for his street-style looks but also to events. Although this way of wearing shoes looks somewhat sloppy, over time it has become a fashion trend. Many other idols also enjoy wearing their shoes like this, mostly because it feels comfortable.
Finger heart
G-Dragon is surprisingly the first person to do the iconic finger heart. Fans discovered that he already did this hand gesture when he was only a kid based on a childhood photo. Surely G-Dragon himself would not expect that he did the famous finger heart way before everyone else.
Bow hair clips
When How You Like That teaser images were released, Jisoo gave everyone a visual shock when she had pretty bow hair clips on both sides of her hair. The same hairstyle was later applied by many other female idols. Ribbon hairpins also became one of the best-selling and most sought-after accessories.
