6 movies so scary audiences fainted while watching: No.3 got children screaming by mistake

Not every cinema-going experience is filled with joy and excitement. In fact, for certain movies, the audiences had to walk out half-way through, with some even fainting or vomiting due to overwhelmingly disturbing scenes.

1. Raw

The coming-of-age horror film “Raw” was artful in its own terms, but what it excelled in the most, was perhaps making people feel faint-hearted. During its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, “Raw” rendered a lot of people unconscious due to its graphic contents. In fact, film critic Ryan Werner even disclosed that he saw an ambulance at the screening due to too many people getting physically sick after watching this move.

2. Antichrist

“Antichrist”, with all its jumpscares, creepy cinematography, and R-rated scenes, left most audiences with an overall disturbing experience. At an initial screening, many viewers expressed that the movie “traumatized” them, while audiences at the Cannes and Toronto Film Festival even vomited and fainted. Regarding this reaction, director Lars Von Trier simply said “I don’t have to justify myself. I make films and I enjoy making them very much. You are all my guests, it’s not the other way round.”

3. The Curse Of La Llorona

A rather ironic yet unfortunate incident has happened at Quebec cinema regarding “The Curse of La Llorona”. In particular, a whole room of children was preparing to watch “Detective Pikachu”, only for a horror compilation teaser, consisting of “Joker”, “Child’s Play”, and most scary of all, “The Curse of La Llorona”, to air. As a result, there was a lot of shock and screaming before the cinema noticed and immediately turned off the screen.

4. Terrifier 2

The second movie of the horror franchise “Terrifier” terrified many audiences who came to the theater. According to Yahoo! News, a viewer shared that their friend fainted on the spot and they had to call an ambulance because the movie was too scary. The bloody scenes made people pass out. As scary as it is, “Terrifier 2” was successful at the box office, even expanding the screenings due to a spike in ticket bookings after the first week.

5. Irreversible

“Irreversible” caused a controversy over the 10-minute scene where the female lead is abused. For those who watched the movie in theaters and couldn’t “skip” this scene, it turned into a nightmare-like experience. When it premiered at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, 250 people had to leave the theater, of which 20 passed out. An employee confessed that in their 25 years of working at the Cannes Film Festival, she had never seen such a situation take place.

6. The Exorcist

Not only at the present time but back in the 70s, there were also many horror films that left the audience traumatized. “The Exorcist” is one of them. On the day the movie was released, people lined up for hours to buy tickets to the theater, but many left in tears because the movie was too horrifying. According to reports, more than 70 viewers fainted and fell ill after watching the exorcism scene. Although controversial, it is undeniable that “The Exorcist” still remains one of the classic horror masterpieces to this day.
