5 Kpop girl groups who are strong contenders for this year’s “Rookie of The Year”

With doll-like beauty and flawless skills, these Kpop girl groups have been the center of attention right after debut. 

As soon as their new album dropped, these rookie Kpop girl groups recorded high sales and swept through the music charts.  During these years in particular, strong girl groups have been pouring out so much that it’s impossible to tell who will come out on top. As a result, netizens are debating over the possible winner of this year’s Rookie of the Year awards.

1. IVE

Starship’s rookie group IVE, which debuted in December 2021, is gaining huge popularity. 

Their debut song “Eleven”, was extremely well-received by the public, and since then has surpassed 100 million streams on the music platform Spotify. 

Their new single “LOVE DIVE”, which dropped in April, has achieved 13 music show wins, even against big names like BIGBANG and PSY

As of the moment, the group lands the 6th position among all girl groups’ Initial Chodong sales ranking, which complies physical sales within a week since album release. 

2. LE SSERAFIM

As the first girl group to debut under BTS’s agency HYBE Labels, LE SSERAFIM became the center of attention way before their debut. 

The group’s first mini-album “FEARLESS” quickly proved its popularity by selling more than 180,000 copies within just 2 days since release.

The music video for “FEARLESS” also surpassed 10 million YouTube views within 19 hours, making them the fastest rookie girl group of this year to cross the 10 million mark. 

3. Nmixx

JYP’s newest artist Nmixx, who debuted in February, also quickly caught the public’s eyes. 

According to the real time Kpop sales chart Hanteo, Nmixx’s first ep “AD MARE” recorded 227,399 physical copies in the Initial Chodong sales ranking.

The group’s music video for their debut song “O.O” has since surpassed 60 million viewers on YouTube, and is heading towards 100 million, which speaks volumes of Nmixx’s global popularity. 

With stunning visuals and skills, Nmixx is a strong contender that others need to look out for. 

4. Kep1er 

Kep1er, the winning group of the survival show “Girls Planet 999”,  debuted in January this year, and is showing a strong potential. 

Their first mini album “FIRST IMPACT” sold over 150,000 copies in the first day alone, and reached 206,569 Hanteo sales within the first week.

In addition, their official MV for the title song “WA DA DA”, has surpassed 100 million viewers on YouTube, attracting great attention. 

Recently on May 3rd, Kep1er was also named as the winner of the best female rookie category at the 2022 Brand Customer Loyalty Awards. 

5. CLASS:y

CLASS:y is the newest entry to the list, having just made their official debut with the album “CLASS IS OVER” on May 5th.

The 7-member group was formed through the MBC reality survival show “My Teenage Girl”, which aired in February and featured an outstanding judge lineup that included SNSD’s Yuri, (G)-IDLE’s Soyeon, and the former Fin.K.L member Ock Joo Hyun. 

With their spectacular skills and beauty, the group has received explosive responses right from their debut.
