2 Korean films that were criticized for the huge age gap between the main couples

Korean romance movies with a large age gap between the two leads are no longer uncommon, but it is difficult to accept when the female lead is 30 years older than the male lead.

Over the years, the trope of a couple with a huge age gap is often used in Korean movies (not counting movies about fictional characters). The fact that the male and female leads are actors whose ages are a decade apart, even 20 years old is not something new. But a 30-year age gap is still terrifying to some viewers. Here are two movies about a relationship between the female lead who is 30 years older than the male lead, sparking countless debates as to whether it is really appropriate or not.

1. The Taste Of Money

The Taste Of Money is a movie that causes a lot of controversy over its storyline. The affectionate and steamy scenes between the “national grandmother” Youn Yuh Jung and an actor who is 31 years younger than her were under fierce controversy. Not the kind of sweet and romantic love, the secret affair of the wealthy socialite and her assistant in the movie is only for the purpose of satisfying lust and greed. Their relationship, especially the scene where these two characters have sexual intercourse, have caused numerous controversies on social media.

2. Everglow

Unlike the above-mentioned tremendously dark drama, Everglow is a work of pure, simple, warm love between two people with a significant age gap. The film features the veteran actress Go Doo Shim and the male lead, who is 33 years younger than her, Ji Hyun Woo.

Everglow revolves around female diver Jin Ok. She met Kyung Hoon, a young film producer who came to make a documentary on Jeju Island. After working together, the two gradually fell in love despite the significant age gap. Bringing pure, soft footage, yet Everglow nevertheless discomforts the audience because of the gap in age between the two. Many people believe that the love in the movie is too offensive and insane.
