11 K-drama couples that went from on-screen romantic partners to real life relationships

The following K-Drama co-stars ended up dating and even getting married in real life, but not every couple has a happy ending.

The sizzling chemistry, emotional kissing scenes, and heart-fluttering moments between couples in Korean dramas often make the audience wonder if it’s all just acting. In fact, spending hours on set with their co-stars, filming intimate, loving scenes, can sometimes make the actors’ hearts flutter.

Korean celebrities often date in private and avoid going public with their relationships. Therefore, many viewers are surprised when the main couples in popular dramas are reported to be dating in real life. The 10 following couples all went from co-stars to real-life partners. Some got married and had children, while some unfortunately broke up or divorced.

1. Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young (Save The Last Dance For Me)

The duo of A-lister – Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young fell in love thanks to co-starring in Save the Last Dance For Me in 2004. In the drama, Lee Bo Young plays Soo Jin, the fiancée of the male lead Hyun Woo (Ji Sung), but ends up getting her soon-to-be husband stolen by the female lead.

Although they could not be together in the drama, fate brought Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young together in real life. The two made their relationship public in 2007 and officially walked down the aisle in 2013. Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young happily welcomed their first daughter in 2015 and had a son in 2019.

Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young are one of the most admired celebrity couples of Korea’s entertainment industry. They both have good looks and great acting.

2. Ahn Jae Hyun and Goo Hye Sun (Blood)

There are many popular K-dramas centering on vampires and one of the most memorable series is Blood, released in 2015. Blood revolves around the talented doctor Park Ji Sang (Ahn Jae Hyun) – who keeps his vampire identity a secret. He later falls in love with his colleague Yoo Rita (Goo Hye Sun). 

Ahn Jae Hyun and Goo Hye Sun were confirmed to be dating for a year after Blood came out. In 2016, the two decided to get married and hold a private wedding. The audience expected them to become the next “dream couple” of Korean showbiz. However, a year later, they filed for divorce. 

3. Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young (City Hunter)

Currently, Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young are considered two of the most popular actors. Both rose to fame thanks to her role in many hit dramas of the romance genre. In 2011, Park Min Young and Lee Min Ho started to develop feelings for one another after co-starring in the action-romance drama City Hunter.  

But due to conflicting schedules, the two went their separate ways a year later. Most of the time, it is difficult for young celebrity couples to maintain a long-term romantic relationship after their dating was made public. However, there are still exceptions, typically Shin Min Ah – Kim Woo Bin, or Soo Young – Jung Kyung Ho.

 4. Kim Bum and Moon Geun Young (Goddess Of Fire)

Goddess Of Fire is a historical drama released in 2013 starring Kim Bum and Moon Geun Young. The drama revolves around a talented artist who falls for a prince during the Joseon era. Kim Bum plays a supporting role and has a love triangle with the female lead played by the “nation’s sister” Moon Geun Young. 

In the same year, the two stars’ dating photos in Europe surfaced online. Different from many other couples in the industry, they made an unforgettable impression when responding to rumors by landing at the airport after the trip, confidently holding hands and walking in front of the reporters. However, Kim Bum and Moon Geun Young decided to break up 7 months later.

5. Ki Tae Young and Eugene (Creating Destiny)

Creating Destiny is one of the most well-received Korean family dramas of 2019, receiving the support of viewers with the humorous and romantic story between the characters Han Sang Eun and Kim Yeo Joo played by Eugene and Ki Tae Young. In real life, “Penthouse” star Eugene fell in love on set with her male co-star Ki Tae Young. The couple got married in 2011 and have two adorable daughters. Eugene and Ki Tae Young also flaunted their happy married life by appearing with their kids on The Return of Superman in 2017. 

6. Nam Joo Hyuk and Lee Sung Kyung (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo)

In 2016, the drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo was loved for its unforgettable humorous moments. Above all, the public also paid special attention to the sweet love story of Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk. 8. Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo (Descendants of the Sun)

Unlike other divorced celebrity couples in the entertainment industry, Jo Yoon Hee attracts attention when keeping a calm attitude when mentioning Lee Dong Gun. She even made a cake with her daughter for her ex-husband’s birthday.

11. Kim So Yeon and Lee Sang Woo (Happy Home)

Kim So Yeon and actor husband Lee Sang Woo met through the MBC family drama – Happy Home. After falling in love, the couple decided to make their relationship public in September 2016. In June of the following year, the two actors held a private wedding with the participation of close friends and colleagues.

Currently, Kim So Yeon and Lee Sang Woo have no intention of having a baby and are working hard on drama projects. Notably, Lee Sang Woo once appeared as a special cameo in the hit drama “Penthouse” to support his wife.

In the near future, Kim So Yeon may return with the project The Tale of a Gumiho  2, collaborating with Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum.
