Yoo Ah-in Denies Guiding Marijuana Smoking & Destruction Of Evidence Allegations

In the fourth trial on his drug charges, actor Yoo Ah-in firmly refuted the allegations of guiding YouTuber A to smoke marijuana

On April 16th, the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement Division 25-1 held the fourth trial for Yoo Ah-in on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

At the trial, a witness testimony examination on acquaintance and YouTuber A related to the allegation of Yoo Ah-in guiding marijuana smoking. A is suspected of smoking marijuana on a US trip with Yoo Ah-in and other acquaintances in January last year.

Upon entering the court, Yoo Ah-in said, “I deny the allegation”. When asked why he sent a long text message, the actor briefly responded, “I never sent it”.

Some of Yoo Ah-in’s fans were seen at the court. Several women, seemingly Yoo Ah-in’s fans, held placards with messages such as “Everything will be fine. Be strong”, “We are always on Ah-in’s side”, etc., while covering their faces.

Earlier, Yoo Ah-in denied the allegations of either guiding YouTuber A to smoke marijuana or destroying evidence. According to the indictment submitted by the prosecution to the National Assembly in November last year, Yoo Ah-in was accused of smoking marijuana with YouTuber A at an outdoor swimming pool in Los Angeles, California in January of the same year.

While smoking marijuana with his friends, Yoo Ah-in expressed frustration over the appearance of YouTuber A, who came to the pool to film a Vlog, saying “Why should my leisure time be disturbed by a YouTuber?”. The actor then asked A to try smoking marijuana, expressing concerns over A exposing his marijuana smoking in public, which might lead to him being investigated and negative impact on his image and reputation.

Noticing that A pretended to smoke, Yoo Ah-in then explained how to smoke marijuana in detail, saying “That’s not how you do it. Breathe it in deeper”. In addition, Yoo Ah-in is later known to have urged A to reverse their statement.

In this regard, Yoo Ah-in’s side denied encouraging and offering marijuana smoking. Regarding the allegation of guiding smoking and destroying evidence, they claimed, “He didn’t attempt to delete text messages and those messages cannot be considered evidence in a criminal case. Even if the messages are true, the charge of attempting evidence destruction cannot be established because the evidence was been deleted in his own case”.
