YG Criticized For BABYMONSTER’s Outdated Concept For Upcoming Comeback

YG Ent was criticized again for BABYMONSTER’s fashion style

Recently, BABYMONSTER is gathering attention for their talents and visuals. However, the group is said to not only lack a good song to gain a solid position but also need to improve their concept. Many people believe BABYMONSTER have been mixing the style of 2NE1 and BLACKPINK ineffectively.

Recently, YG released a poster introducing the group’s comeback on July 1. Accordingly, the 7 “monsters” will release the new single “Forever,” marking their return after 3 months since their debut mini album. For this product, BABYMONSTER will have a somewhat feminine and elegant concept. In the poster, the 7 members show off their visuals in pure black outfits, with many sparkling silver details and elaborate embellishments.

However, instead of compliments, BABYMONSTER’s new image receives criticizm from Korean netizens as it looks like something from the early 2010s. While BLACKPINK is a global fashion icon, their junior BABYMONSTER are said to look too cheesy.

Many posts about how YG built BABYMONSTER’s image have gone viral on various Kpop forums. In the comment section, many people feel sorry for the talented group as the group has never truly shined the way their seniors did because of their outdated concepts.

Earlier this year, rumors were raised that YG currently does not have a creative director, making BABYMONSTER fans even more disappointed. This is a disadvantage for BABYMONSTER as Kpop’s beauty standards are always strict, requiring entertainment companies to constantly update due to the trends. Building images and concepts becomes a aspect that entertainment empires like SM or HYBE pay special attention to. Many famous groups like aespa or NewJeans also have their own “concept universe”. It will be very difficult for BABYMONSTER to escape the shadow of BLACKPINK if YG is still struggling as it is now.
