Amid being flooded with criticism, JTBC’s drama “Snowdrop” reached #2 on the “TV Hot Topic” chart.-
According to data released on Dec 21st by Good Data Corporation, a hot topic research institute, “Snowdrop” ranked second in the TV hot topic TOP 10 in the third week of December.
MBC’s “The Red Sleeve” ranked first, KBS2’s “The King’s Affection” ranked third, tvN’s “Bulgasal: Immortal Souls” ranked fourth, and SBS’ “Our Beloved Summer” ranked fifth.
In the drama cast’s hot topic TOP 10, Jisoo, the main character of “Snowdrop,” ranked fourth and Jung Hae-in ranked ninth.
“Snowdrop” tells the love story between a college student who hid and treated a spy who jumped into a women’s dormitory in Seoul, 1987. The drama filming has already completed in July.
However, after the release of its synopsis, controversy arose over whether Yeong-cho, the original role of the current Young-ro played by Jisoo, beautified espionage, because the role was suspected of being inspired by Chun Young-cho, who resisted Park Chung-hee‘s Revitalization Regime in the 1970s.
In response, JTBC said, “The motive behind “Snowdrop”’s background and major events is the presidential political situation amidst a military regime. Against this backdrop, the drama tells a fictional story of a government engaging with the North Korean regime to maintain its power. Many people have recently expressed concerns about ‘history distortion’ and ‘disparaging the democratic movement’. However, most of the misunderstandings will be resolved when more developments of the drama are revealed in the future.”
