Singer-actor Jung Joong-ji (30 years old), who made his face known through Mnet’s audition program “Produce 101 Season 2”, passed away due to an extreme choice.
On the night of Sep 22nd, Jung Joong-ji’s younger sister wrote on her brother’s Instagram account, “I’m Joong-ji’s sister. It’s sad to say this, but my brother passed away. Thank you very much for your concern.”
She added, “I hope my revealing this Instagram account can soothe your longing.”
This account is the Instagram account that Jung Joong-ji used during his lifetime. It contains his pictures in the past.
The last post was a video uploaded on Jan 1st, 2021. The bright face of Jung Joong-ji, who was tidying his disordered hair in the bus while wearing a school uniform, attracted attention.
Earlier, on Sep 20th, Jung Joong-ji’s mother posted through Twitter, “I’m Jung Joong-ji’s mother. My son, Joong-ji, took his own life. I can’t describe how I feel right now.”
Jung Joong-ji died on Sep 9th, four days after his birthday, at the age of 30. His funeral was held at 9 AM on Sep 11th.
The exact cause of Jung Joong-ji’s death is unknown.
Jung Joong-ji became famous for his “boyfriend material photos” on SNS then entered the entertainment industry. He appeared in plays “Prison” and “The Essence of Love”. He also participated in Mnet’s idol audition program “Produce 101 Season 2” in 2017 and finished in 64th place. Immediately after the elimination, he said, “I was very grateful to be able to meet good PDs, good writers and good friends.”
After the program ended, Jung Joong-ji signed an exclusive contract with his new agency and performed good deeds while volunteering.
He won the actor category at the “Hanbit Awards” hosted by the Hallyu Selection Organizing Committee in 2017, and held his first fan meeting in 2018.
He released the digital single “Not Sad” in August of the same year. He also appeared in the youth talent discovery project “Musician Call Show” with singer Lim Young-woong.
