“My Dearest” surpasses Kim Rae Won’s “The First Responders 2”, will Nam Goong Min win MBC Drama Awards daesang?
Nam Goong Min beat Kim Rae Won and once again saved MBC from its rating crisis.
MBC’s Fri-Sat drama “My Dearest”, starring Nam Goong Min, ranked No.1 on the rating chart with episode 5, which aired on August 18th. The 5th episode recorded a nationwide rating of 8.4%, according to Nielsen Korea.
“My Dearest” rating soared by 3.2% from 5.2% in episode 4. With this result, the drama set a new viewership peak and topped the rating chart of all MBC dramas in 2023 that aired until August 18th. In addition, it even surpassed the records of MBC’s daily dramas “The Witch’s Game” (7.3%) and “Meant to Be” (5.8%). As a result, MBC finally secured the top spot again among dramas of the same time slots on all channels after more than a year since “Big Mouth” (2022).
“My Dearest” premiered alongside SBS’s Fri-Sat “The First Responders 2”. In their first episodes, “My Dearest” started off at 5.4% while “The First Responders 2” did a little better with 7.1%. In episode 4, “My Dearest” recorded 5.2% while “The First Responders 2” achieved 6.0%. The gap between both dramas was narrowed down to 0.8%. Then finally, after both released episode 5, “My Dearest” successfully overtook the No.1 place from “The First Responders 2”.
Especially, Nam Goong Min, who plays the male lead of “My Dearest”, is creating hot topics again.
Nam Goong Min took on the lead role in SBS’s “One Dollar Lawyer” and overwhelmingly won over MBC’s “The Golden Spoon” in the Fri-Sat drama competition in September last year. Helping SBS win against MBC last year, Nam Goong Min is now joining hands with MBC to face SBS. The fact that Nam Goong Min continues to do well with “My Dearest”, following the success of his previous works “Stove League”, “The Veil”, and “One Dollar Lawyer”, has earned him the nickname “King of Fri-Sat dramas”.
Although many dramas are still waiting to be released in the second half of this year, many viewers are already raising expectations for the high possibility of Nam Goong Min winning Daesang at the 2023 MBC Drama Awards. Attention is focused on whether Nam Goong Min will help “My Dearest” achieve higher ratings as the story progresses and become the main character at MBC Drama Awards at the end of this year.
