LE SSERAFIM Confidently Sang Live at Weverse Con, But Netizens Still Suspicious

After being criticized for their poor vocal skills at Coachella, LE SSERAFIM are constantly trying to prove themselves again.

Last weekend, the Weverse Con 2024, an event organized by HYBE, officially took place. This year’s Weverse Con gathered a host of popular HYBE groups like SEVENTEEN, LE SSERAFIM, TXT, ILLIT, ENHYPEN, and a special guest—JYP founder Park Jin-young.

While NewJeans was entirely absent from this annual concert, other HYBE stars delivered special performances, with LE SSERAFIM’s stage drawing significant public attention.

LE SSERAFIM’s stage garnered immense public interest.

Following the girl group’s disastrous performance at Coachella, LE SSERAFIM has become a target of public scrutiny. Once top representatives of their generation, they suddenly became the “most hated girl group in Kpop,” not only due to skill issues but also perceived as lacking professionalism and failing to address their weaknesses. Consequently, every performance by the group has been heavily scrutinized, and Weverse Con was no exception.

However, LE SSERAFIM confidently sang live at Weverse Con, as if to prove themselves again. The five girls used handheld mics to perform familiar hits like “Unforgiven”, “Antifragile”, “Perfect Night”, and “Smart”. LE SSERAFIM’s strength lies in their high-energy choreography, which is demanding and requires significant effort. However, at Weverse Con 2024, the choreography was toned down to allow the group to focus on their vocals.

This was seen as a “strategy” to quickly address the group’s unstable vocals. In the end, it was evident that LE SSERAFIM’s singing was more stable compared to their previous Coachella stage.

Korean media extensively covered LE SSERAFIM’s stage at Weverse Con 2024. One article titled “LE SSERAFIM Confidently Sings Live After ‘Controversy’… Light Dancing” sparked heated debates on Kpop forums.

While the group’s efforts were acknowledged, the majority opinion was that LE SSERAFIM used a backtrack, and the sound setup at Weverse Con naturally wouldn’t expose their flaws.

Below are some comments from K-netizens:

  • Oh, that article was written by the female reporter from Min Hee-jin’s second press conference, right? Smells like HYBE bias.
  • So now just holding a handheld mic is enough to be a singer?
  • They can sing but their choreographies are too hard. Yunjin and Chaewon have always shown they can sing live.
  • I can clearly hear the AR (audio backing track)…
  • They all need to take vocal lessons.
  • Nowadays, too many idols call themselves singers while letting the AR do all the singing.
