Kim Hee Chul: “I Renewed with SM After Seeing Lee Soo Man, But Then He Left”

On March 27th, MBC’s ‘Radio Star’ will feature Super Junior’s Kim Hee Chul, Leeteuk, Yesung, and Eunhyuk in a special titled ‘Super Junior, It’s a relief if we don’t fight.’

Kim Hee Chul returned to ‘Radio Star’ after a long time. He mentioned forming a connection with professional gamer Faker, who was a guest on the show four years ago, revealing that he gained something valuable from that appearance. 

He then expressed disappointment, saying, “Today, there’s nothing to gain,” and drew attention from the start by drawing a line, pointing at Eunhyuk, and saying, “That guy is not from SM,” displaying his straightforward talk.

Kim Hee Chul, who has been an MC on ‘Knowing Bros’ for 10 years, analyzed the differences between ‘Radio Star’ and ‘Knowing Bros.’ He listed the strengths of ‘Knowing Bros,’ such as everyone speaking informally making guests feel comfortable, adapting sets according to guests, and only inviting trending individuals through verification. He then mentioned ‘Radio Star’s’ strength in discovering rising stars. 

Kim Hee Chul confessed to feeling the crisis of disbandment as Super Junior approaches their 20th debut anniversary next year. He revealed that after leaving SM Entertainment last year, Donghae and Eunhyuk started their own company, Kyuhyun moved to another label, and the rest, except Leeteuk and Yesung, pondered their future. 

Recalling the atmosphere of those discussions, he chuckled, saying, “The atmosphere was tense… I renewed with SM after meeting Lee Soo Man, but then he left,” reminiscing with a laugh.

He expressed his disappointment, saying, “When our maknae, Kyuhyun, moved to Antenna, I wondered if things changed.” He recounted a conversation with Eunhyuk in the car, where Eunhyuk questioned if he would have fit in at Antenna, to which someone (presumably Kyuhyun) immediately replied, “Hee Chul hyung wouldn’t fit in with Antenna at all. Our company can’t handle Hee Chul hyung,” expressing his dismay. 

Kim Hee Chul also revealed why he feels Super Junior isn’t as good as before. He mentioned that in the past, members often argued, but now, there aren’t many instances, leading to a shortage of anecdotes. 

He promised to create fighting episodes with the members next year for Super Junior’s 20th debut anniversary on ‘Radio Star,’ bringing laughter.

Furthermore, he reminisced about his past when he dominated Cyworld with his celestial visuals, mentioning his weight gain from 56kg to 70kg. He recalled feeling naturally showered with attention wherever he went, leading to a sense of arrogance, thinking it was natural. 

Lastly, Kim Hee Chul’s embarrassing past, despite his overwhelming visuals, which earned him widespread love and envy, was exposed. He shuddered, saying, “I feel like I’m going to vomit,” soliciting curiosity about the story behind his agony.
