“Cannes Best Actress” Jeon Do Yeon in her 50s: Bold on the screen, peaceful in marriage

As the newly released movie “Emergency Declaration” takes over the box office in various nations with its intense plot, many viewers are growing curious about its star-studded cast, which consists of Lee Byung Hun, Song Kang Ho, Kim Nam Gil, and the “Cannes Best ActressJeon Do Yeon.

In this return, Jeon Do Yeon assumes the role of Head Minister Kim Sook Hee – a strong and decisive woman who always puts the safety of her citizens first and foremost. As a result, she strives to achieve a safe landing for the turbulent flight that’s the focus of the movie. 

From a supporting character next to deceased actress Choi Jin Sil to a megastar 

Born in 1973, Jeon Do Yeon is among the most respected Korean actresses with numerous awards and achievements. 

The actress made her debut in the entertainment industry at the age of 17, and in the first few years, only played super minor roles in K-dramas. She also appeared as a supporting character in the hit series “Star in My Heart”, which starred deceased actress Choi Jin Sil.  

At the time, Choi Jin Sil was already a superstar who received numerous acting offers, while Jeon Do Yeon was basically a no-name. Despite boasting excellent acting skills, Jeon Do Yeon wasn’t able to stand out amid popular faces of the time, such as Go Hyun Jung and Kang San Mi. 

In 1997, Jeon Do Yeon decided to attempt movie roles instead, and her portrayal in “The Contact” ended up becoming the actress’ big breakthrough. From an unpopular name, Jeon Do Yeon immediately became a super star, even winning Best New Actress at the 1997 Blue Dragon Film Awards and Grand Bell Awards. 

It was from here that Jeon Do Yeon earned the title “the chameleon of the Korean big screen” and received rave reviews for her constantly changing images and versatile expressions. She was also recognized as an A-list actress ever since. 

Later, Jeon Do Yeon also achieved success in movies such as “My Mother”, “The Mermaid”… She left a strong impression on the audiences by doing bold and steamy scenes on the big screen, showing how dedicated she is in every role. 

A remarkable work in Jeon Do Yeon’s filmography is “Secret Sunshine”. Thanks to her excellent portrayal of a single mother, Jeon Do Yeon took home various prestigious awards both domestically and overseas. 

At the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, Jeon Do Yeon was crowned Best Actress and became the first Korean actress in history to win an acting award at a reputable international film festival. 

A quiet married life with a businessman husband

Bold and sexy on the screen, but Jeon Do Yeon enjoys keeping a low profile when it comes to her personal life. She is happily married to a non-celebrity man who is always supportive of her career. 

In March 2007, Jeon Do Yeon suddenly announced her marriage to a Korean-American businessman. To protect her husband’s privacy, Jeon Do Yeon did not share any information about him. A source in the industry revealed that Jeon Do Yeon’s husband is a businessman, a member of the Board of Directors of the Korean racing club.

After getting married, Jeon Do Yeon continued to stay low-key about her life off the screen. A year after the wedding, Jeon Do Yeon and her husband officially became parents as the actress gave birth to their first daughter.  Although she never posts anything about her family, sometimes Jeon Do Yeon was spotted hanging out with her husband outdoors while being bare-faced.

Jeon Do Yeon’s husband is said to be very supportive and never interfere with his wife taking on roles that require her to film bed scenes. This also contributes to Jeon Do Yeon’s career reaching new heights.
